
Student of the Year Award
This Award celebrates the future researchers in our industry.
In 2024 we are asking students to imagine the future of the practice of research and share their ideas on what the future of research looks like by answering the question:
“What will research be like in 2050?”
and share their ideas in a three (3) minute video, while demonstrating their understanding of research principles.
Eligibility
The Student of the Year Award is open to students who are enrolled in an undergraduate degree at an Australian university as at 30 September 2024. Proof of enrolment may be required.
Students cannot be employed in a research, research operations, insights or analytics role. Employment as a research interviewer is acceptable. If you are unsure of eligibility we encourage you to check in advance by emailing awards@researchsociety.com.au
Criteria
Winning the Student of the Year Award is about successfully demonstrating the student’s understanding of research principles and innovative thinking in commercial research.
Judges will be looking for the submission to demonstrate the student’s knowledge and skills, based on the below criteria:
- Understanding of research principles (40%)
- Innovative and fresh thinking in their approach (40%)
- Overall presentation quality and concise communication style. (20%)
Entry Process
To enter follow these steps:
- Complete an Application on the Research Awards Portal
- Create a video (no longer than 3 minutes) that responds to the question “What will research be like in 2050?“
- Send video to awards@researchsociety.com.au via WeTransfer – https://wetransfer.com/
Please include your full name and email address in the first frame of your video. Please ensure you use the same email address in your submission and in your video.
Rules of Entry
- All entries must be submitted by 5pm AEST 11 November 2024. Late entries will not be accepted.
- The Student of the Year Award is open to full-time students who are enrolled in an undergraduate degree at an Australian university as at 30 September 2024. Proof of enrolment may be required.
- Students cannot be employed in a research, research operations*, insights or analytics role. *Employment as a research interviewer is acceptable.

- Your entry application must be submitted through the Research Awards Portal.
- The receipt of an entry is acknowledged by email confirmation. If you do not receive this email after submission, please email awards@researchsociety.com.au
- Each submission must include a completed entry on the Research Awards Portal and a video submission.
- The judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- No materials will be returned.
- Entry into the Student of the Year Award assumes that you are giving permission for The Research Society and our media partners to use your submission materials on our website and in promotional materials.
- Entrants do not need to members of The Research Society.
- Entrants will be judged on the merits of the submission alone. No additional material will be considered.
Entry Fees
Entry is free.
Prize
The winner of the Student of the Year Award will be given a complimentary ticket to the Research Awards 2024 event, with travel and accommodation costs for the night included.
